NDA Curriculum

Home Routine

On the first night of camp, perform any routine brought from home for an evaluation by NDA Staff. This evaluation is completely optional. Each Home Routine will receive an evaluation rating, along with written feedback from NDA Staff. Specialty awards may be handed out to routines that excel in innovative choreography, superior showmanship and/or technical excellence. This evaluation is also an opportunity to qualify for NDA Nationals. Home Routine is an option at all NDA overnight, day and home camps.

Be sure to follow the music guidelines at your upcoming camp. Go to varsity.com/music for the latest resources!

If you are participating in the optional Home Routine performance, you will need to show proof of purchase and/or licensing to your Head Instructor on Day 1 of camp.

If a team brings music to camp that does not follow these guidelines, the following options are available for you:

  • You may select one popular song from iTunes, Amazon MP3, Google Play (or other providers), play as is for your routine, or edit that one song for timing purposes.
  • You may select one of the music pieces provided by the staff for your routine.
  • You may perform using counts only, but no music.
  • You may elect to not perform your routine at all.

If you have any questions, please contact your State Director.

*These updated guidelines should not be construed as legal advice. These are only the guidelines for using music at Varsity Spirit events. Using music without the appropriate permissions from the owner(s) of the recording and underlying musical composition is complicated and may subject the user to copyright infringement liability. If you have any questions about the issue, you should obtain independent legal counsel.

Specialty Technique

Every day at camp, classes benefit all levels including: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced and Elite. Dancers will get constructive feedback and learn drills to improve their skills. Specialty Technique Classes include options, such as: flexibility, lifts, turns, leaps/jumps, pom technique, kick technique, dance fundamentals and hip hop skills.

Team Dance

A feature that is exclusive and unique to NDA, this routine consists of four styles, including: jazz, pom, kick and hip hop. There are three levels to choose from: Beginner/Intermediate, Intermediate/Advanced and Elite.

Style Routines

Style Routines will be selected specifically for your camp based upon requests made by you prior to Camp. Style options include: jazz, pom, hip hop, kick, lyrical and contemporary. Levels range from Beginner to Elite.

Game Day Routines

Learn 30-second routines created for the field or court. These crowd-pleasers are perfect for timeouts, end zones, sideline routines or pep rallies. Available in jazz, pom and hip hop.

Top Gun

Take part in a fun individual competition that awards one dancer in each of the areas of kicks, leaps & jumps, turns and hip hop.

Team Leader

NDA has developed one of the best leadership programs in the industry. Take lessons in how to teach, clean and choreograph. Additionally, the Team Leader Routine is designed to challenge team leaders to work together to incorporate their own choreography, formations and transitions. Team Leaders will be featured the final day of camp in the Team Leader run-off.

Evaluations

Team and individual evaluations provide your dancers with well-deserved recognition and useful feedback for continual growth.

Sidelines

Teams have the option to learn jazz, pom and hip hop sidelines. Fun, visual routines that look great performed on the sidelines at any performance or event. Also, Sidelines are great for cardio combinations to use before stretching at practice. Learn Sidelines at your camp by request on the Coaches Camp Request Questionnaire, sent 3 weeks prior to camp.
